3rd June 2024: Seminar on HIV/AIDS Awareness & Ill-Effects of Tobacco

A seminar on HIV/AIDS Awareness was conducted at Ladybird School for classes V to X in the school auditorium on 3rd June 2024.

The resource persons Mr. Makshi Jamir, District programme Officer, District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit, Mokokchung and Ms. Temsukala, Assistant Teacher of Ladybird school educated the students on the impact of HIV on young people. They sensitized the students about what is HIV/AIDS, how it is caused and the four ways it can be spread from an infected person to another.

They also stressed on how awareness of the impact of HIV play an important role in controlling the spread of AIDS by increasing protection awareness and promoting healthy behaviors. Awareness was given about risks, prevention, and nearest testing and treatment centres that are available. Such awareness among young people will lead to positive changes and reduce stigma and discrimination associated with HIV/AIDS.

Mr. Nukshiwati Longchar, District Consultant, National Tobacco control Programme, Mokokchung also highlighted briefly on the ill-effects of tobacco and encouraged students to avoid taking tobacco. Whether smoked or chewed, tobacco is dangerous to one’s health. Tobacco products contain unsafe substances, from acetone and tar to nicotine and carbon monoxide. The inhaled substances can affect a person’s lungs and the other organs in our body causing fatal illness.
