Ladybird School organized “Enhancing week: Social and Emotional development” from 6th to12th October 2022 from Nursery, LKG and UKG students with the aim of educating and inculcating the students with the basic values of discipline in learning and developing various social and emotional growth. Thus focusing on the holistic development of the students.
The week long activity based workshop/Enhancing week was held at the school’s auditorium conducted by the Nursery, LKG and UKG teachers. Social – Emotional development is the process of learning skills that we need in order to make and maintain relationship, feel good about ourselves and function within society. Many of these skills are learned during play. These skills include communication, co –operation, recognizing and controlling behavior.
The Social-Emotional activities revolve around enhancing their listening skills, classroom discipline and emotional self awareness.
- Listening: It involves paying attention to environmental sound, music, conversations and stories.
- Classroom discipline: To understand the importance of obeying the classroom rules. Activities were carried out based on the following areas:
- Personal Space: To help students understand boundaries and personal space.
- Eye Contact: To encourage the students to look into each other’s eyes while talking and help them focus on conversations and read facial expressions.
- Following directions: To assess how well the students follow directions given by the teachers.
- Emotional self awareness: activities were conducted to help the students understand their own feelings and emotions and that of others.
They were also shown a short – video covering a variety of social- emotional topics like anger management, to have patience and to be respectful towards their peers and teachers.
